The 9-Pin J1939 female socket is with a locking ring. Rotating the locking ring to the right place after plugging to a 9-Pin J1939 male receptacle assures that the connector won’t come unplugged accidentally.

The end of Deutsch 9-Pin J1939 female and male plugs can be overmolded or not, according to your needs. If the ends are overmolded, the cables are more sturdy and durable. If not overmolded, the price can be lower because the raw material and labour cost is saved.

The Deutsch 9 Pin J1939 female connector of this cable is Type 2, so its Pin F is with smalller diameter as Pin C and Pin J. Type 2 J1939 9-Pin female connectors can be inserted into Type 1 or Type 2 J1939 9-Pn male receptacles.

Pin assignment or pin out

In most cases, all 9 pins of the J1939 male and female connectors are wired, so there are 9 wires of 20AWG in the cable. If there is no need for all 9 pins to be connected, the price can be lower because the raw material and labor cost is lower.

Application

There is only one 9-Pin J1939 diagnostic port in a truck. If you want to connect two devices with 9-Pin J1939 port to a truck at the same time, this Deutsch 9 Pin J1939 Split Y Cable is needed. It can connect ELDs (Electronic Logging Devices), diagnostic devices or scanners or fault code readers to the truck.

This Y cable is for heavy duty commercial vehicles (such as some Freightliner Cascadias and others) that have the J1939 9 pin diagnostic port adjacent to the clutch pedal or in some other inconvenient location. It is also for commercial vehicles that require multiple devices be connected to the J1939 9 pin diagnostic port. This cable allows the J1939 diagnostic port to be split, with one port going to the original location and the other going to an ELD or another device which has a 9-Pin J1939 port.
